We fish a lot of different lakes in Northeast South Dakota. Each week we'll highlight some different lakes for our fishing report.

Big Stone Lake
The perch bite is starting to take off. Tungsten jigs tipped with spikes and vertically jigged over the side of the boat works the best. They are light biters so leave you slip floats at home. There are a lot of smaller perch coming up in the system (which is good to see) so bring enough bait with you.
Some walleyes are being taken in the north half of the lake. Pulling jointed Rapala’s, #4 Salmo Hornets, #4.5 Rattling Hornets and #5 Berkley Flicker Shads work the best for us. When pulling plugs for walleyes you’ll also pick up some nice perch. Spinners with a slow death hook and half a crawler is also producing walleyes.
Big Stone is becoming a premiere largemouth bass lake in our region. Right now, the best bite is early morning or late evenings. Cast top water baits around the islands. The bass are big so please practice catch and release. Take a picture and let them go. In doing so we’ll be able to keep this fishery vibrant.
